Conservatories – When is planning permission needed?
You are probably aware that many conservatories do not require planning permission. However, if the conservatory comes under the following categories, then planning permission is required:
- If the conservatory covers more than 50% of the land around the original property, and this includes other buildings.
- If it is at the front or side of the original property that overlooks the road.
- Planning permission may be required if the customer lives in an allocated area or if the property falls under an Article 4 Direction.
- If the customer lives in a listed building.
- If the conservatory is higher than the highest part of the roof on their property.
- If the eaves and ridge height is higher than the existing property.
What planning permission is required when conservatories are to be built at the side of the property?
- If they are more than a single storey or over 4 metres.
- If they are more than half of the width of the original property.
How can we help with planning permission for an extension?
We can guide you through any planning permission that you need to build an extension. As you are aware, this is a key part of the pre-build process.
Large building projects, for example, double-storey extensions, will need full planning permission. We can take care of the whole process and keep you fully updated about the progress of the application.
We can also guide you through any restrictions that may apply to certain areas, such as:
- Conservation areas.
- Green belt land.
- Areas of natural beauty.
- Land that has a Tree Preservation Order on it.
Additionally, we can advise you on whether a project is likely to be feasible in terms of planning permission.
